Ed Bremer, who died from cancer the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 22, helped do everything at Everett’s independent KSER radio station.
EVERETT — The man whose calm voice on 90.7 KSER-FM was matched with a do-it-all attitude instrumental to getting the independent station on the air died of cancer last week.
Ed Bremer was key to forming the station and its programming, and as news director, he held his own as an interviewer. He spoke with newsmakers each weekday on his program, “Sound Living,” until he had to pull himself off the air because of his diagnosis in late 2019.
Behind the scenes, too, he helped dozens of community members with what often was their first experiences with radio. Bremer saw community radio as a public service, and dedicated most of his life to this principle.
“On the org-chart Ed reported to me. But who Ed really reported to was you, our listeners and our communities,” KSER’s General Manager Tom Clendening said in announcing Bremer’s passage. Condolences poured in when the news went out.
Bremer was 68 years old.
KSER first went on the air Feb. 9, 1991, meaning its 30th anniversary of going on-air will be 2021. Clendening wrote that the station will spend the year dually celebrating the milestone but also paying tribute to Bremer, who intrinsically helped make it happen.
