Road rage may have preceded shooting on Wagner Road

MONROE — A Monroe man was jailed for shooting at another Monroe driver in an incident along Wagner Road, but he is claiming it was self-defense.
A police report filed in court says that on the evening of Monday, May 9, the driver of a green truck, a 39-year-old man, was hit by bullets and taken to Providence hospital with gunshot wounds.
The other man, 26 and in a white Subaru, had fired multiple times. He then kneeled away from his car with his hands up waiting for police.
One witness told police she saw two vehicles, one racing on the easement. They ended up both entering the 39-year-old man’s family’s property in the 13300 block of Wagner Road and then began smashing their cars together.
Surveillance video from a camera on the property showed the pickup truck driver smashing into the Subaru. The man in the Subaru quickly got out and shot multiple times at the driver. Police saw holes in the windshield and other windows of the pickup.
The man in the Subaru told police he was following the truck because he wanted to get the owner’s auto insurance information, and said he didn’t want to shoot.
He told police the whole thing started in the parking lot of the Monroe Bank of America. The Subaru driver also had narcotics on his person which police booked into evidence.
