Snohomish vandal arrested

Note to readers: Below is an article from when the Tribune went to press prior to the man's first court appearance. A more developed story will be in the March 8 Tribune or posted sooner.

 SNOHOMISH —
On the morning of Feb. 23, police caught up with the man who went on a vandalism spree in town Feb. 8.
He is who had ripped the stair rails off of the Avenue A Gazebo, busted a businesses’ window on Union Avenue, damaged the windshields of at least three Snohomish Police cruisers, and committed a hate crime by spray painting a racial slur on a private property. It sounds like it was all in one night.
The man is a 23-year-old from Lake Stevens. Snohomish Police said it worked with Lake Stevens Police to make the capture.
Police filed nine charges of malicious mischief plus a hate crime offense with district court against the man.
His first court appearance was scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24 on the felony jail calendar after the Tribune’s early press time for this edition.
Damage to the gazebo was a sorry sight to residents. A local company, Nordic Home Solutions, had orchestrated a full renovation on the gazebo last summer. Nordic responded swiftly to fix the gazebo damage.
The man is not tied to the Feb. 15 armed robbery on the riverfront trail. That case was still under investigation, Snohomish Police Administrative Sgt. Chris Veentjer told the City Council Feb. 21.
