Behind on rent? Monroe program is offering assistance, apply by Nov. 30

MONROE —  The city recently established two rent and mortgage relief programs using federal CARES Act money, one for residents and another for businesses.
Applications are due Monday, Nov. 30.
The resident assistance program is for people whose income is not more than 80 percent of the median income for the wider Puget Sound region. To apply for the resident assistance program, call Take the Next Step at 360-794-1022 or visit www.ttns.org
For the business assistance program, eligible recipients are local businesses that were in operation and occupying commercial space in Monroe prior to March 23, 2020, and experienced a revenue reduction of at least 25% in the months of April through June of this year compared to the same period last year. Applicants will submit a company-prepared Profit and Loss Statement for each period with their application. To apply for this program, contact the Monroe Chamber of Commerce at 360-794-5488.
To get funding, you must get approval from your landlord or mortgage company showing that they agree to accept funds from this government program, and also agree to not seek eviction for at least one month beyond the expiration of government-issued eviction moratoriums. Payments will be issued directly to the recipient’s landlord or mortgage holder.
The money is for rent or mortgages in arrears between April 1 and Oct. 31 and covers up to four months of missed rent or mortgage payments.
Funds will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
