MONROE — Gloria Hopkins knew a small celebration would happen for her retirement, but was wowed by how big a deal it would become. At age 91, she was the state’s oldest classified employee, verified by the state’s human resources division within its Office of Financial Management. On Dec. 31, Hopkins clocked out for the last time, concluding 27 years of working in accounting at the Monroe Correctional Complex for the state Department of Corrections (DOC).

SNOHOMISH — A pedestrian awareness campaign for drivers to be more careful is being prepared for early next year by the city’s volunteer Public Safety Board. The city also has safety measures cominng.
EVERETT — Members of the City Council have been discussing creating a registry program for all of the city’s rental properties, part of a larger policy package that would expand the rights of local tenants. The Rental Registration Program, if enacted, will require landlords to obtain a city license for each of their owned properties. The license will need to be renewed annually, and the process of renewal instructs landlords to complete a health and safety checklist.
SNOHOMISH — Tucked in an Avenue D strip mall sits Stray Cat Tattoo, and in this studio Viktoriia Veprentsova has found a haven for her art after fleeing the war in Ukraine. Veprentsova is a 21-year-old tattoo artist who made waves throughout Europe with her work.
