Snohomish’s future city logo, signage unveiled

SNOHOMISH — City officials last week revealed results of a brand refresh at the city featuring a blockier font, a wider color palette beyond blues and greens, and a plan to incorporate Lushootseed, the indigenous language originating from the area.

The logo is up for interpretation. Its yellow could be seen as a sunrise or sunset.

City administrator Heather Thomas-Murphy said that “we are not planning to go out and change things over the next 12 months,” but as opportunities come up, the city would use the new look.

The package was professionally designed by a Snohomish-area firm. The contract with design firm PickledFlower is for $44,000, from a copy of the contract shared by the city.

The current logo being replaced was designed in-house.

There aren’t immediate plans to change the Avenue D roundabout sign or other major items, but to put them in when money is available.

Park sign improvements could be over the next 20 years to replace rotting signs, city public works director Nova Heaton said.

Words in Lushootseed would be placed on the side rail of some signs.

The Tribune’s Facebook page, titled “Snohomish County Tribune Newspapers,” has copies of the graphics presented last week.
