Man who stabbed 13-year-old in mid-January on Broadway pleaded not guilty, trial is April

EVERETT — The man accused of stabbing a 13-year-old walking to school in mid-January, Andrew Freeman Jr., pleaded not guilty to charges last month.

Prosecutors seek to charge Freeman, 21, with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon while he was out on community custody supervision by the state Department of Corrections. The day before the stabbing incident, Freeman had been released from almost 12 months of incarceration for a robbery and assault.

His trial is currently scheduled for April 11.

He was given $2 million bail.

Police believe he did not know his victim, a teen who attends North Middle School. He approached, then chased the boy. When the seventh-grader tripped and fell, then tried to hide under a truck, police allege Freeman stabbed him with a small knife five times and then ran.

The boy had serious wounds but was recovering at home.

Over a week later, Freeman was found riding the bus and taken into custody.

Freeman’s past includes convictions for robbery and assault in Snohomish County in 2024, and for second-degree attempted robbery in King County in 2022, plus graffiti charges in Everett during 2023.
