SNOHOMISH — In March, the City Council approved hiring a consultant to design intersection projects at Bickford Avenue and 19th Place and at Second Street and Pine Avenue.
At Second Street and Pine Avenue, the city will decide whether a roundabout or more modern traffic signal is needed.
The Bickford Avenue and 19th Place intersection project will include replacing a “ two-way stop at the four-leg intersection with a roundabout or traffic signal,” as well as replacing the “pedestrian facilities, crosswalks” and sidewalk, a city document stated.
Its construction timeline is still to be determined, city engineer Yosh Monzaki said.
Monzaki said in a phone interview that the pre-design will take a few months in fall or winter and be finished in 2026.
At Second Street and Pine Avenue, the current signal system with a “span wire traffic signal” is outdated. It does not have “a protected left turn phase for vehicles on Second Street turning on to Pine Avenue,” a city document said.
The company Transpo will design the Bickford Avenue and 19th Place and the Second Street and Pine Avenue intersection projects. They were the only company that gave a proposal.
In 2024, Transpo finished the City’s Transportation Master Plan.
Currently, they are involved with the Bickford Avenue/Weaver Road Intersection Improvement Project.
The estimated cost for the project is undetermined right now. There is a $260, 646.91 budget for “pre-design for the projects,” according to a city document.
