To the Editor:
I’ve lived a long time in this beloved country and have taken an oath to obey the laws inherent in our U.S by constitution many times. I fervently believe in the democratic principles that have guided us for over 250 years.
Never have I witnessed the lawlessness, cruelty, and usurpation of our democracy as we are now enduring under the Trump administration. The list of traitorous and unlawful acts by Trump and Elon Musk, a South African immigrant, is staggering and ongoing.
My concern is that our local and legitimate request for federal funding for our new Civic Campus will be capriciously denied. As of this writing, we are not sure.
We have little recourse to arrest these folks pillaging our federal payment systems, as the U.S. Marshalls are controlled by Trump’s Justice Department. The agents of the FBI and CIA are also under Trump’s influence with his loyal appointments to head these agencies.
Because the Executive and Legislative branches are held in MAGA Republican hands, we only have the Court systems to uphold our Democracy. Necessitating a long, yet uncertain outcome.
Inspired by our Constitution, it’s we, the people, who must be courageous in these times. We gather with like-minded neighbors and resist this lawlessness. Resist in all the many ways we can, and know we need to “go the distance” to outlive this treachery.
