Teams of firefighters from Snohomish County traveled to the Los Angeles area last week to help fight the multiple, vast and deadly wildland fires blazing there. Some 30 engines went, The Seattle Times reported.
Agencies that pitched in and sent engines include Snohomish Fire District 4, which sent Engine 40 down, Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue, Sky Valley Fire, South County Fire, Tulalip Bay Fire, Getchell Fire, Fire District 21, North County Fire/EMS, Central Whidbey Fire, Camano Island Fire, and the South Whatcom Fire Authority.
The firefighters who went all volunteered to help the efforts.
The fires each began Jan. 7. Combined, they have burned more than 40,000 acres and 12,000 structures, California’s statewide fire authority said.
The two most prominent fires, the Eaton Fire and the Palisades Fire, were both less than halfway contained as of Sunday, Jan. 12.
Local crews have committed to staying through this week, according to Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue.
