EVERETT -- The Everett Silvertips couldn't overcome Portland's robust defense at one end of the rink and wild shots at goalie Raiden LeGall on the other tonight in Angel of the Winds Arena.
The Tips lost 4-2 to the Portland Winterhawks, taking a Game 7 loss Tuesday, April 22. It was the final game of second round playoffs for the Western Hockey League, with the winner advancing to the third round.
Silvertips goalie Raiden LeGall halted 29 shots on goal sent by the Winterhawks. Portland's goalie Ondrej Štěbeták halted 40.
Everett's Landon DuPont gave a promising initial goal in the second period, which Portland soon tied up during the same period.
Early in the third period, Everett's Lukas Kaplan got in a goal with assists from Austin Roest and Kaden Hammell.
Minutes later, the Winterhawks took their second and third goals midway in the third period and fended the Tips off for the remainder of the game to take the win. Portland scored 4-2 because they popped in a fourth goal upon an empty net during the final minute of the game as fans began leaving.
In random game news, one of the game officials, Nathan Van Oosten, got knocked over onto the ice after not avoiding oncoming players rushing for the puck mid-rink along the wall.
Tuesday's game had 5,626 in attendance.
Looking ahead, among players in the roster, Silvertips co-captain and defenseman Hammell, No. 47, is signed to the Seattle Kraken NHL team next year, as is Julius Miettinen, No. 17.
Roest, No. 14, is signed by NHL's Nashville Predators.
