Monroe yard floods when fiber crew hits water main

MONROE — Online pictures of a yard filled with water at a house in the Fryelands Neighborhood during Ziply Fiber’s underground installation work caught neighbors’ attention last week.

A Ziply subcontractor hit a city water main, said Ryan Luckin, a Ziply spokesperson.

“Ziply, the sub-contractor and the city inspector made contact with this resident to investigate the claim of damage in the crawl space. Those requests for access to the home were denied by the homeowner,” Luckin said.

The company will work with insurance companies, the Ziply representative said.

Ziply is adding fiber optic cables in the Fryelands as part of a wide expansion it’s doing in Monroe to offer its broadband internet services. Subcontractors are digging in the public right of way. The subcontractors always bear Ziply Fiber logos, Ziply’s representative said.

The homeowner did not immediately respond to a request to talk.
