The Snohomish Lions Club’s main fundraiser event each year is the Mad Hatter Croquet Derby, which was held Sept. 7 at Harvey Field.

This year, for the first time, The Lions, along with their sponsor EvergreenHealth-Monroe, added a FREE Family Event preceding the main Mad Hatter Derby.

Parents, along with Lion volunteers on hand, helped kids learn the basics of Coquet. “Watching the joy these families were having in their interactions, let us know this will no doubt become part of the Annual Mad Hatter Event,” said Lion Vicki Adams.

Moving on to the adults only afternoon main event, the joy continued!  Because there is a costume contest, many got into the spirit of the theme:  Alice in Wonderland – Down the Rabbit!

The main event, of course, is the competitive derby itself.  Teams play elimination rounds, then to the semi final round and then the Championship Game of the day, which featured Melody Clemans, Damon Jordan, Kier Keith, Parker Hein, Elk Krejcarek and Nancy Fairbanks.

Congratulations to the 2024 Mad Hatter Derby Croquet Grand Champion MELODY CLEMANS! Melody swept a field of 88 contestants, including two returning Champions in the final match, to claim the trophy. Melody is celebrating her 80th birthday this month proving that Croquet is truly for all ages!

The Snohomish Lions would like to thank the sponsors who helped make all of this possible: EvergreenHealth Monroe for the Family event and for the Mad Hatter Main Event, Harvey Field, Koz Development, Wyser Construction, Spada Farmhouse Brewery, El Paraiso (Snohomish and Monroe), Snohomish Tribune, Looking Glass Coffee, Skip Rock Distillers, Snohomish Senior Center,  Bickford Ford, Yoga Circle, Andy’s Fish House.
