Inequities may worsen if Farm Bill alters SNAP

FOOD INSECURITY

To the Editor:

Welcome to Megan Kemmett, our new director at the Snohomish Community Food Bank (story in Sept. 11 Tribune).

Sad there is so much need for our food bank, and indeed across the country, even though we are the world’s wealthiest.

There may even be more need if the current proposed House changes to the Farm Bill’s SNAP program pass. State Rep. Suzan DelBene is doing her best to make the former food stamp program more effective, she knows from her first-hand experience living on a food stamp budget to better understand the need. We can help by telling her personal stories of why this program matters, thanking and encouraging her to expand this program to meet the needs in Snohomish and across the nation.  Partnering with the food bank, SNAP has the potential of ending hunger in our country.
