Closing gaps in school security is the solution

SCHOOL SECURITY RISKS

To the Editor:

Lack of political will is the real reason behind the school vulnerabilities, as it’s a funding issue. Walking into an airport is harder than entering public school grounds and buildings.

Knowing who is entering the building at all times by limiting what doors are accessible, as well as running all bags through a scanner would reduce the violence and deter the motivations of a disturbed person, in addition to holding school leadership accountable when a weapon is used on school grounds. All done without tampering with the Second Amendment. It’s not reinventing the wheel, it copying what works outside the box.
