SNOHOMISH — The city’s Public Safety Board is looking at creating a coalition of neighborhoods.
The idea would designate sections of the city into newly fashioned “neighborhoods” based on relatively obvious boundaries.
The Snohomish board is thinking of creating six to eight such neighborhoods.
It’s conducting a nine-question online survey through Sept. 30 on how to draw the map. A direct way to get to the survey is www.polco.us/snohomish Scroll down to “Neighborhood Engagement Survey.”
One of the questions asks: “Do you think it would be helpful for the City of Snohomish to organize neighborhoods into specific subareas for the purpose of community engagement?”
It also asks how people would like to participate in their wider neighborhood.
The idea draws from other cities that have similar “neighborhood” groups.
The city of Everett, for a nearby example, set up 19 neighborhood associations long ago. They’re run by volunteers, and hold monthly localized meetings with guest speakers and more. For example, northeast Everett is the Delta Neighborhood; just south of it is the Riverside Neighborhood, and so forth.
Everett also has a Council of Neighborhoods comprised of representatives from each neighborhood. Part of their role is to share local concerns.
