LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Teen: Your vote on I-2117 affects my future

WA INITIATIVE 2117

To the Editor:

I am in the 9th grade. I cannot vote yet, but I will live with the world you create with your vote. You can vote to stop global warming, or you can vote to keep Washington State greenhouse gas pollution.  Please vote to stop global warming and pollution.

In 2021, Gov. Jay Inslee signed the Climate Commitment Act that gets businesses to find the best ways to lower their greenhouse gas emissions. The Act sets a limit on carbon emissions. Businesses are required to buy allowances equal to their greenhouse gas emissions. The program lowers the cap over time to make sure Washington meets the greenhouse gas reduction commitment.

However, the Climate Commitment Act is threatened now! It needs your protection.  Initiative 2117 would revoke the Climate Commitment Act.

As a teen, I ask you to vote No on Initiative 2117. It is time to protect our state and generous planet!
