EVERETT — The former site of the Waits Motel, 1301 Lombard Ave., near Broadway will be rezoned to allow a townhome development up to three stories tall, and its plan is to sell to a private developer.

Soon, the City Council will be asked to sell the site to a private developer. This information will be presented at the council meeting this week after press time.

Council will make the final say about rezoning the land at its meeting this week after press time. The meeting will include a public hearing.

In 2023, the city began proceedings to condemn the Waits Motel, calling it a nuisance property and blight on the neighborhood. It finished the act this spring. Throughout, people who resided in the motel rooms as unofficial  low-cost apartments fought the condemnation.
