EVERETT — A County Council majority opted for Council Chair Jared Mead’s countermeasure to reduce the county property tax rate from what County Executive Dave Somers proposed. A 3-2 vote at a Nov. 25 meeting supported Mead’s proposal for a 4% increase by taking a 1% regular increase and 1% banked capacity in both 2025 (2%) and 2026 (2%).
Council members went 2-3, along party lines, to decline Councilman Nate Nehring’s request to take zero property tax increase.
Nehring and Councilman Sam Low voted no to Mead’s 4% measure.
County Executive Dave Somers’ proposal was to raise the county property tax rate by 8%, which would pencil to about a $15 increase to a $600,000 home according to the county finance office.
