In a desperate try late in the first half, Lake Stevens senior Cannon Kennard stretches for the ball in the end zone during the first round of State 4A Saturday, Nov. 17 at Lake Stevens’ field. The Vikings skidded to a rain-soaked win, 52 - 49 over the Mead Panthers and continued their march to State. In their eighth 50-plus point game, the Vikings still needed a nail biting fourth quarter to pull out the victory. In a key second period sequence, Mead intercepted a Kolton Matson pass deep in their own end of the field and converted three plays later to a score. Lake Stevens’ second round game is Nov. 23 against Chiawana High at Chiawana’s home stadium in Pasco.
Meanwhile, the Monroe Bearcats lost to Eastside Catholic. Coming off a 4-game, 40-point-per-game streak, the Bearcats were crushed 37 - 6 to end their season.
