The county government’s request for a sales tax to plunge millions of dollars into more police services, prosecutors and more failed with 43% of the vote.
In Monroe, voters said no to a request to increase property taxes for parks and police.
Among Everett’s city initiatives, it is certain the minimum wage will rise.
The grassroots minimum wage initiative, 24-01, had 59% of the vote. An alternative minimum wage initiative from the restaurant and hospitality industry faltered with 43%.
Everett voters also approved a measure to give the Snohomish River defensible legal rights. That measure came from the environmental group Standing for Washington.
State representative and state senator incumbents in the 38th, 39th, and 44th legislative districts all are fast-tracking to re-election.
Cruising to re-election include Julio Cortes, Sam Low, Mary Fosse, April Berg, Keith Wagoner and Carolyn Eslick. Brandy Donaghy was unchallenged.
In the 12th legislative district, which covers multiple counties, Republican Keith Goehner won over Democrat Jim Mayhew for Senate.
The race for Goehner’s vacated state representative seat has Republican Brian Burnett leading 53% over Democrat Heather Koellen.
12th District state Rep. Republican Mike Steele cruised to an easy re-election.
For Judge, Whitney Rivera took 62% of the vote to be retained on the bench over challenger Mary Anderson.
For an open PUD Commission seat, Julieta Altamirano Crosby is on trajectory to win over Amber King. Altamirano Crosby had 53% of the vote.
A majority of Lake Stevens school voters — 58% — said yes to its capital bond ask but the measure trailed the 60% threshold required to pass. The Sultan School District fared worse on a school bond measure, where voters said no by almost 51%.
Arlington school voters, by a 1,000-vote difference, have said no by 52% to a levy to build a new middle school.
For Governor, Democrat Bob Ferguson will be Gov. Jay Inslee’s successor. Republican Dave Reichert had 44% of the statewide vote to Ferguson’s 55%
For state Attorney General, Democrat Nick Brown had similar headway over Republican Pete Serrano.
The county had about 10,000 ballots left to process as of Nov. 9.
