Public rejecting Snohomish County sales tax for public safety, and more




The county's request for a sales tax to plunge millions of dollars into more police services, prosecutors and more is failing as of first-night results. Proposition 1 is failing with 43% of the vote.

In Monroe, voters so far have said no to a request to increase property taxes for parks and police.

Among Everett's city initiatives, it is certain the minimum wage will rise.
The grassroots minimum wage initiative, 24-01, had almost 58% of the vote. An alternative minimum wage initiative from the restaurant and hospitality industry faltered with 41%.
Initial first-night results show voters also approved a measure to give the Snohomish River defensible legal rights. That measure came from the environmental group Standing for Washington.


State Rep. and state Sen. incumbents in the 38th, 39th, and 44th all are fast-tracking to re-election.
Cruising to re-election include Julio Cortes, Sam Low, Mary Fosse, April Berg, Keith Wagoner and Carolyn Eslick. Brandy Donaghy was unchallenged.
The 12th covers multiple counties and will be checked on.


For Judge, Whitney Rivera looks headed to be retained on the bench over challenger Mary Anderson.

For an open PUD Commission seat, Julieta Altamirano Crosby is on trajectory to win over Amber King.

A simple majority of Lake Stevens school voters said yes to their levy but it trailed the 60% threshold required to pass. Arlington school voters said no by 55% in first-night results. Sultan school voters said no by 53%.

For Commissioner of Public Lands statewide, currently Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler leads the way. Locally among Snohomish County voters, Democratic competitor Dave Upthegrove received more votes.

For Attorney General, statewide both Pete Serrano and Nick Brown were neck-and-neck.

For Governor, Democrat Bob Ferguson looks to be Gov. Jay Inslee's successor in statewide polls. Republican Dave Reichert had 42% of the vote to Ferguson's 57.5%
