EVERETT — Janice Greene, who leads a group for woman-owned businesses and is the longtime president of the Snohomish County NAACP, announced she’s running for mayor a year ahead of the election.
Greene makes it a three-way election. Former City Councilman Scott Murphy announced his candidacy in mid-May (Tribune story), and incumbent Mayor Cassie Franklin is angling for her third term.
Greene spent decades at Boeing, starting as a union line worker, her announcement said.
The organization she is the president and CEO of is the Women’s Business Enterprise Council (WBEC), Pacific Region. It’s an Everett-based involved in improving the competitiveness of woman-owned businesses.
“I know what it means to have a union paycheck, a steady job, and opportunities to advance,” Greene said in her campaign announcement. “We need a Mayor who respects working people and unions, collaborates with business owners for beneficial community economic outcomes, advocates for affordable housing and family stability, and attracts the kinds of businesses and quality jobs to our city that give every resident pathways to success — including small and diverse business owners who create a vibrant business community.”
This is Greene’s first foray into running for political office. She lists her Ph.D. as being in strategic business and program management.
