EVERETT — The Snohomish County PUD’s board approved re-adjusting residential electricity rates by a 5.8% increase in a 2-0 vote.
Rates will be adjusted April 1.
No people spoke at a public hearing last week. PUD board member Rebecca Wolfe was absent.
The utility is estimating that the average medium household could see its monthly power bill increase by $7. (It would traditionally be higher during winter if on electric heat.)
Rates for PUD residential electric customers will increase from the current plan of 9.6 cents per kilowatt-hour to 10.3 starting on April 1.
The adjustment is higher than initially approved in December. The plan was for a 3.8% increase. However, sub-freezing temperatures in mid-January cost the utility some $40 million in buying electricity at higher than usual market rates. The higher 5.8% rate adjustment is to make up for this cost.
