Edgewater Bridge between Everett and Mukilteo to close for 12 months

EVERETT — The city will close the Edgewater Bridge along W. Mukilteo Boulevard, a link between Everett and Mukilteo, to replace it with a new bridge. The closure is expected to last 12 months. Drivers will be rerouted.

The bridge dates to 1946 and is due for replacement.

It crosses Edgewater Creek.

There are three major bridges along Mukilteo Boulevard that are within Everett city limits. Engineering assessments determined that the Edgewater Bridge as well as the Merrill and Ring Creek Bridge would be vulnerable in a major earthquake. Both of those will need replacement. The third bridge, Maple Heights, underwent seismic retrofitting in 2020.  If two of the three bridges along West Mukilteo Boulevard were lost in a major earthquake, portions of several neighborhoods could be completely isolated with no road access in or out.
