SNOHOMISH — Snohomish High senior McKaye Morrill, who graduated this week, recently had her photo “Janitor” selected for an award at the state level.
The prominent window is in the Ellis Island Center in New York. She was in the city to receive a National Scholastic Arts & Writing award for one of her prior photographs. The silhouette contrast was natural.
Shot with a Canon, Morrill was shooting at the window but when the janitor walked by she adjusted the focus to him, she said, and muted some of the colors to bring him out more.
She said she likes that this photo portrays a regular person in the working class.
“It has been a great couple of years to have my art being recognized,” Morrill said.
She will be going to BYU-Idaho this fall and at 19 will be assigned a mission through her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She may go into humanitarian work.
