SNOHOMISH — Well-wishers quickly stepped up to support a First Street restaurant owner.

Mark “Chewey” Nuss of Fred’s Rivertown Alehouse had a significant stroke in fall of 2021. The subsequent medical bills drew down his family’s finances.

A relief fundraiser for the Nusses, as of Sunday, had more than $13,000 in donations from 57 people through GoFundMe.

Supporter Frederick Gibbs started the fundraiser last week. It’s titled “Fundraising Appeal for Mark and Ginger Nuss.”

Mark Nuss and wife Ginger Nuss took over Fred’s about 15 years ago. They’ve been big supporters of downtown events and he’s held officer roles in the Historic Downtown Snohomish Association and Chamber of Commerce.

He also had a cameo role in the Snohomish indie movie “Rivertown” from about 2009.
