Monroe High teacher charged for sexual acts

MONROE — The Monroe High School English teacher accused of cultivating sexual relationships with students from class since at least 2017, including one as late as last fall, now faces charges in Snohomish County Superior Court.
On July 22, county prosecutors filed probable cause charges against Giles Stanton of two felony charges of sexual misconduct with a minor.
The two felony charges are tied to calendar dates on which detectives assert proof Stanton, 53, had intercourse with one of his students when she was underage.
An initial arraignment is currently scheduled for Aug. 6. Defendants typically plead guilty or not guilty at arraignments.
The Monroe School District put Stanton on administrative leave in February.
Prosecutors say Stanton hand-selected students who he’d manipulate into wanting to get together with him.
The tall Englishman initiated an eight-month sexual relationship with one 17-year-old student in 2017 that continued after graduation, according to a Monroe Police detective’s report. This included sexual assaulting this female multiple times in a day. She told police he treated her like a peer, not a pupil, at school and would hold hands and give love notes to her. His attention made her feel special, detectives wrote.
Later on, Stanton then convinced another student to begin a relationship with him after her graduation.
This past school year, there was evidence Stanton was in a relationship with an 18-year-old student of his. Detectives believe they were having sex inside his classroom in the early mornings, from electronic notes the student wrote. She told detectives they weren’t having sex.
Monroe Police believe there may be more students he’s involved himself with.
