To the Editor:
After following weeks of debate on Nextdoor on the pro and con on private use of fireworks, I was struck by how far apart the two sides are. It’s as though they are answering the same question yet interpreting it as separate but not-opposite topics: Safety versus Freedom.
At the same time, it became obvious that both sides not only have varied understanding of the actual laws, but also have scant trust in local government, including lawmakers and uniformed law enforcers. In these two points of view, it was “You can’t catch me” versus “You let them get away with it.”
For these reasons, I have requested the City of Snohomish publish a report in local newspapers on incidents, investigations and outcomes ensuing from June and July fireworks use.
