EVERETT — Sheriff Susanna Johnson was sworn-in the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 2 in a ceremony at the PUD Auditorium, and has revamped the command brass, a move that is usual when a new sheriff comes in.
Johnson’s undersheriff is Doug Jeske.
The Bureau Chief of Operations is Michael Martin, who was Snohomish’s police chief for part of last summer; the Bureau Chief of Special Operations is Robert Martin; the Bureau Chief of Administrative Services is Clint Korhonen and the Bureau Chief of Corrections handling the jail is Alonzo Downing. Before being commander, Downing was a longtime manager at the jail.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Courtney O’Keefe said the bureau chiefs under Sheriff Adam Fortney have returned to the ranks they were prior to being named bureau chiefs: Prior Corrections bureau chief John Flood returned to captain in personnel development, prior administrative services bureau chief Norm Link returned to captain, working in patrol and field operations; and prior special operations bureau chief Mark Richardson returned to lieutenant.
Fortney’s undersheriff Ian Huri is now a captain overseeing patrol operations.
Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force Commander Jay Baines is staying in his role.
Flood was appointed Bureau Chief of Corrections late during Fortney’s administration to take over for Jamie Kane.
Prior bureau chief of operations Scott Robertson retired at the end of December after 31 years in law enforcement, of which 23 were at the sheriff’s office.
Johnson was the sheriff’s office’s bureau chief of operations under Sheriff Ty Trenary.
Johnson won election over Fortney in November. Fortney said he will be the patrol sergeant responsible for all of north county.
