How to get involved this MLK Day weekend



SNOHOMISH COUNTY — There are ample opportunities to honor The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
In Everett, on Monday, Jan. 15 is the big march and rally of the Greater Everett MLK Community Celebration.
The rally’s at 11 a.m. and the march commences at 11:30 a.m. Gather at Everett Memorial Stadium, 3900 Broadway, to march down Colby Avenue.
The event continues at the Carl Gipson Center, 3025 Lombard Ave. Organizers say marchers should arrive at the Carl Gipson around 12:30 p.m.
A celebration at the Gipson starts soon after with music, food, speakers and the presentation of the Prodigies For Peace Youth Award Winners.
On Sunday, Jan. 14, a traditional Martin Luther King Jr. Sunday service will happen from 3 to 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The YMCA, meanwhile, is hosting a community breakfast at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett on Friday, January 12 from 7 – 9 a.m., and hosting Day of Service events countywide Monday, January 15.

For Day of Service events:
The Everett Y (4730 Colby Ave.) will be conducting an outdoor clean-up project in neighborhoods near the Everett Y from 9 a.m. to noon. Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. The Y will provide gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, and reflective vests, plus light snacks and coffee.
The Monroe Y (14033 Frye-lands Blvd.) will be working on local parks starting at 9:30 a.m. Bring shovels and meet at the Monroe Y to see which parks. Lunch will be served at the Y after.
The Y’s Day of Service events are open to the public at large.
Meanwhile, Everett Community College is holding a food drive to collect items for the EvCC community and student food pantry on campus. The Martin Luther King Jr.-oriented drive is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 17. And there will be signs directing people to the drive-through drop-off.
Drop off food to the Cascade Learning Resource Center, 1001 N. Broadway.
People can park and come into the building to drop off food, or drive-through to hand food off to volunteers.
