EVERETT — The Navy will homeport 12 Constellation-class frigates at Naval Station Everett over the next 10 years, and the Navy is taking comments on the environmental impacts of the plan.
The next-gen frigates would be phased in starting in 2028, according to the Navy. “By 2037, there would be up to 12 frigates with approximately 2,900 personnel and two U.S. Coast Guard vessels for an overall net increase from 12 to 14 ships homeported, and in the end, the number of personnel stationed at Everett would remain relatively consistent,” according to a Navy press release.
The Navy determined Everett would be the homeport a few years ago.
The Navy is holding meetings to discuss the environmental impact. It invites the public to attend a public meeting at Hotel Indigo, Harbor Ballroom, 1028 13th Street, Everett on either Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. or Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The meetings will not include any formal presentation, but will be conducted in an open house format, and attendees will be able to obtain information on the project, as well as submit comments.
The Constellation class frigates are the latest-generation frigates. The first ship started construction in 2022.
