Racism, Trauma, and Youth of Color panel in Everett on Jan. 14

RSVP ahead for an insightful educational program and panel discussion on Racism, Trauma, and Youth of Color to be held Jan. 14 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., at the Carl Gipson Center, 3025 Lombard Ave. in Everett. Sponsored by the NAACP-Snohomish County and the Volunteers of America Western Washington Behavioral Health Program, this event aims to spotlight on the challenges faced by teachers, administrators, and families in racially diverse communities.

Dr. Kurt Hatch, Ed.D., Faculty Director of the Educational Administration Program at the University of Washington Tacoma, will be the keynote speaker. With a background in policy analysis and advocacy, Dr. Hatch will delve into the impact of racism and bias on youth of color in educational settings. He will address disparities and higher suspension rates while emphasizing the need for equity and understanding.

Additionally, a panel of teens will share their personal experiences and perspectives on this crucial issue. This program is designed to provide valuable insights, suggest actionable steps, and offer resources for our community to address and combat these pressing challenges.
