Future Everett stadium to be downtown - selection made

EVERETT -- The City Council voted 7-0 at its Dec. 18 meeting to select the downtown site for the future Everett stadium.  The location will be across the road from the current Everett Events Center that houses Angel of the Winds Arena.

The move cements that the Everett AquaSox minor league team has a future home that meets Major League Baseball's more stringent stadium requirements, and could pave the way for a United Soccer League (USL) team in Everett that would play at this stadium.

The alternates were to renovate Funko Field at Everett Memorial Stadium or to do no action and lose the AquaSox.

We are excited for the next 40 years of affordable, family-friendly entertainment in Everett,” said Chad Volpe, co-owner of the Everett Aquasox. 

“We are pleased with tonight's developments and the potential for bringing professional soccer to Everett,” said Justin Papadakis, Deputy CEO of the United Soccer League. “We agree that a downtown stadium offers significant benefits for the City, and it can play a key role in catalyzing the area. USL looks forward to continued discussions towards a partnership on a new, multi-purpose stadium that could serve both the community and the growing demand for sports and entertainment in the region.”
