Quarter Midget racers staying on track

MONROE — The Washington Quarter Midget Association won the bid to continue operating the quarter-midget racetrack at the Evergreen State Fair Park, the county confirmed.

The children’s quarter-midget racing nonprofit has used the small oval track since 2007. The county put the contract up for bid for the first time in the track’s history because another group expressed interest. This alarmed the nonprofit association that it might lose its longtime home.

The losing bidder, Traxx, has an interest in expanding its go-kart track. They have a small seasonal track at the Park.

Everett’s Forest Park to get pickleball

EVERETT — By the end of 2025, eight pickleball courts will be popping away at Forest Park.

“The City of Everett and the Mukilteo Everett Pickleball Club have partnered in the planning, design and construction,” a city memo states. The city will shortly initiate a call for bids for a constructor.

Four of the eight pickleball courts will be regulation-sized, the city said. The courts will replace the area being used for 30 covered horseshoe pits, but the project includes adding new horseshoe pits.

Big Second Street building gets OK to use

SNOHOMISH — Success! On Dec. 5, city logs show city building inspectors granted final approval for the ability to occupy 1010 Second St., the former furniture store that was heavily damaged in a fire during summer 2023.

The fire’s cause was never publicly released. The property takes a city block between Avenues A and B. The building has been going through six-plus months of reconstruction.

Built in 1947 with a unique Quonset-hut-style metal roof, it first housed Poier Motors, a hometown General Motors auto dealership. A real estate investment firm bought the property in 2018 from local building restorer and investor Scott Swoboda, records show.
