SNOHOMISH — Camp Leo is a camp that is specifically for children who have diabetes. Their mission, as stated on their website is: “Fostering a Community that Empowers, Educates and Inspires Those Impacted by Type One Diabetes Thorough Year-Round Programs for Children, Adults and Families.”
The Snohomish Lions Club has been a yearly contributor to aid with scholarships so that children in need are able to attend this exceptional camp and develop a sense of belonging and rid themselves of feeling alone.
This year, at the Snohomish Lions Club annual Thanksgiving Banquet and Auction, they added a special FUND-A-NEED to the auction. They invited James Davidson, a former attendee at Camp Leo, to speak about his experience. In his very heartfelt presentation, James spoke about what Camp Leo has meant to him. He began his journey at the age of eight, not knowing what to expect. When he came home, he couldn’t wait to go back and has attended every year since.
As an adult, James is now one of the counselors because Camp Leo has meant so much to him and he wants to help others gain the confidence that he has been given.
“We are so pleased to be able to award nearly $8,000 to Camp Leo. It was a thrill to gather with James and Tina Ghozen, the camp administrator, to present this check!” said Lion Vicki Adams.
