To the Editor:
It is the end of summer again. A little league sign reads a reminder from your child. I’m just a kid. My coach is a volunteer. The officials are humans. No college scholarships will be handed out today. Fans in the stands wonder how the Mariners will finish their season.
A few years ago Marti Blea, an Everett resident, is a sponsor of the Everett Aquasox and was having dinner with Mariner great Edgar Martinez. She asked
Edgar to sign a bat for her then-three-year-old granddaughter. Edgar responded “We are currently on strike and that will cost you $10,000.” Marti, quick as a whip, asked “Will you do it for a beer?” The good natured, well-respected
Edgar answered, “Yeah.”
End of summer brings football and back to school preparations. A few years ago, Curt Marsh, the former Snohomish HS state football champion football player, UW football team star, and NFL veteran with the Oakland Raiders, returned to the Snohomish area after his football career ended.
The six-foot-four mountain of a man took his son to kindergarten for the young boys first of school.
The experience was very emotional for Curt. After leaving his son in his new classroom, Curt went into the bathroom and began to cry. A young kindergarten student came into the restroom and asked, “What’s the matter Buddy, did someone steal your lunch too?”
It is the end of summer again and fans wonder how the Seahawks will play this year.
