Avenue D section closed Oct. 18
SNOHOMISH — Avenue D between First and Second streets will be entirely shut down for construction, pending weather. Crews will be grinding and paving.

 Adult health survey happening
MONROE — The Monroe Community Coalition’s annual survey of adults is happening. They’re looking for adults 18 and over to share their perspective on substance use and other problems facing youth.

Haggen “Round Up” going on
SNOHOMISH — Haggen grocery store shoppers can round up their total bill to support seniors who use Meals on Wheels. The fund drive runs through Oct. 31.
Haggen plans to present a donation check to Homage from this year’s campaign in early December.

 Rewolinski added to school board
EVERETT — The school board last week appointed Roman Rewolinski, a military veteran and CPA for a private firm, to fill its vacancy after interviewing five candidates.
He’ll be administered the oath of office Oct. 24.

 Pickleball courts for Sky River Park
MONROE — The city recently broke ground on new pickleball courts it plans to get open next spring.

Debra Bryant, former city chief, dies
EVERETT — Debra Bryant, who audited finances in the public sector before eventually becoming Mayor Ray Stephanson’s second-in-command for 10 years, died Sept. 27 after an extended illness. She was 63.
Bryant rose to be the city’s chief administrative officer, ­also known as deputy mayor, plus its chief financial officer until retiring in 2018 when Stephanson’s last term ended.
