SNOHOMISH — Republic Services has approached the city requesting to authorize an unscheduled rate modification tied to the area’s Consumer Price Index, the city public works director said in January. It would require a future City Council vote amending the contract.
As of Jan. 20, Republic had not given the city exact figures it would like to adjust the rates to, city spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. Until Republic provides the city some figures, the city cannot gauge when the item would be brought forward for the City Council to discuss, Ireton said Jan. 20.
Republic Services’ media relations department did not respond to the Tribune’s phone and email requests for further details.
The city of Monroe is also served by Republic Services. Republic Services has not approached Monroe for a similar ask, Monroe’s finance director Becky Hasart said.
The city of Snohomish is contracted with Republic Services to April 1, 2024.
