SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Three Snohomish School Board candidates are neck-and-neck-and-neck, while an interesting set of circumstances in Monroe’s school board race emerged in the August primary. The primary narrows the field to a two-way shootout for November.
On Snohomish’s school board, the split of three school board candidates is mere votes between them, as Sherri Larkin, Sarah Adams and Monica Weber sit with 35%, 31.9% and 31.8% of the vote respectively as of Thursday’s results for the primary. Larkin tops the field wth a 438-vote gap. Adams led Weber by 20 as of latest available results Aug. 4.
Meanwhile, in the sole Monroe school board primary, incumbent Jeremiah Campbell and Tiana Armstrong currently are the top two.
One hitch: Armstrong dropped out in July. Whereas Crystal Blakely, who as of Friday was 577 votes behind Armstrong in third, is running a campaign.
Amstrong dropped out because she said she moved out of her district area. She's poised to go on.
"The top two candidates from the primary move forward, regardless of their intention or ability to assume the position,” said Matthew Pangburn, the county’s elections manager. Armstrong’s announcement she halted her campaign came after the May 22 deadline to withdraw and get her name off the ballot.
Snohomish Fire Levy
The levy passed with about 54% of the vote.Fire Chief Don Waller thanked the community in a letter, writing “because of you, able to hire additional personnel to respond to higher call volumes, build a fire station on Pine Avenue and replace one or two others as funding allows.”
Monroe City Council
Junelle Lewis and Jake Walker will face off for the seat being vacated by Ed Davis. Lewis led with 45% of the vote to Walker's 37%. Will Schlegel is out.
Everett City Council
The race is shaping up for the two at-large council seats.
Scott Bader and Demi Chatters advanced in a four-way primary for the at-large council seat being vacated by Brenda Stonecipher.
Incumbent Judy Tuohy will face Judith Martinez for the other at-large seat, knocking Bryce Nickel out. Nickel has endorsed Martinez.
Everett School District
Ryne Rohla and Charles Adkins are advancing for the seat being vacated by longtime school board member Pam LeSesne. The top two led far ahead of Janelle Burke and Roman Rewolinski.
