Attempted robbery and shooting incident at Monroe’s Al Borlin Park

MONROE — A 39-year-old Monroe man was injured in an attempted robbery and gunshot incident at Al Borlin Park the evening of Thursday, July 27.
Police say the victim claimed that two unidentified white men approached him, one pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at his head, and demanded his possessions. One of the suspects was caught between the automobile and the open driver's side door. The driver was sitting in his vehicle with his door open when this occurred. The victim was shot in the left leg by the armed man. The shooter also fired at the driver's side door. The victim escaped and drove to the nearby EvergreenHealth Monroe hospital for treatment.
Police from Monroe responded to calls from the hospital and Al Borlin Park. The victim's car's driver's side door had bullet holes and shells were discovered near the scene of the alleged shooting.
The Monroe Police Department is investigating the incident, which was isolated and deliberate. The Criminal Investigations Division of the police department is in charge of the ongoing inquiry.
Monroe Police believes this incident was isolated and targeted. “The suspects have not been caught, and our investigation is ongoing.” Monroe Police Cmdr. Paul Ryan said.
