SNOHOMISH — Fresh fruits, vegetables and delights are all for the choosing as farmers market season is nearly here.
The Snohomish Farmers Market opens Thursday, May 4 on Cedar Avenue and part of Pearl Street in Historic Downtown Snohomish. The market in Everett opens about a week later and Monroe and Lake Stevens open soon after that.
Snohomish market manager Sarah Dylan Jensen said this year’s roster of between 125 to 150 vendors is making this season’s market one of its largest in its 32-year history.
"We have some new farmers this year, it's exciting that people are venturing into farming," she said.
Also new additions are a boutique dog treats maker "so beautiful people think they're for people," Dylan Jensen said, a dry pasta seller and a duo that offers upcycled clothing and bicycle repairs.
Dylan Jensen's been seeking a fresh pasta seller to add for years; they're a rare specialty like cheesemongers.
Most vendors are returning, such as You Are What You Eat Fish Company, a mom-and-pop seafood seller from Snohomish, which sells fresh sustainably caught fish that they catch on their family boat.
There also are baked goods sellers, quiltmakers, jewelry makers, knife sharpening services, taxidermy decor and hand-poured candles.
People with EBT cards, senior nutrition cards and WIC cards are able to shop. The market will have you swipe your card in trade for market tokens use for shopping for food. EBT cardholders can get a match of $25 in tokens for swiping at least $25 in EBT. At the minimum buy-in, it effectively doubles the spending power.
Visit the market management booth on the sidewalk in front of the Carnegie Building, 105 Cedar Ave., to trade tokens.
Live acoustic music will be playing at the corner of the Carnegie.
The Master Gardeners will be coming in June to provide garden advice.
A kids day is coming in late June where children can try fruits and vegetables of all types.
Dylan Jensen manages the Snohomish, Lake Stevens and Stanwood markets. If you can't make Thursday, there's a good chance the same vendors may be at the Lake Stevens market on Wednesdays. There's considerable overlap, Dylan Jensen said.
The Snohomish market runs through the end of September.
There is a small chance to get a vendor booth still when there are gaps. Contact snohomishfarmersmarket@gmail.com or call 425-280-4150 to inquire.
