SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Somebody in Snohomish County died of the flu this month, the Snohomish Health District said last week.
It was the county’s first flu-related death since 2020.
Masking during COVID-19 is credited with helping keep the flu at bay.
“Unfortunately, this is likely to be the first of more cases to come,” Snohomish Health District Health Officer James Lewis said. “In the southern hemisphere of the world, who have their flu season during our summer, we saw a resurgence of flu infections. We are likely to see the same here.”
State Secretary of Health Dr. Umair A. Shah said it’s time to get your flu shot. “We are entering respiratory illness seasons and it is a critical time to protect yourself and those around you from influenza.”
