Cry for help halted July rape attempt
EVERETT — She didn’t know the man, but a passerby could be credited with scaring him away.
In late July, a masked man attempted to rape her in the woods behind the Everett Home Depot at Highway 99 and Airport Way.
He pushed her into the bushes, punched her to control her and showed her a gun to threaten her, says a police case report obtained last week by the Tribune.
She described him as a Black man who was heavyset and a little taller than 5-foot-6-inches.
The woman and her fiancee had just had a argument and she walked away to cool off.
Instead, she got attacked in the 11900 block of Avondale Road behind the Home Depot.
The woman was able to call out “help” and a passerby nearby replied back. This startled the man and he fled.
The woman thought the passerby is someone who lives in a nearby housing development and is not from the nearby homeless camp, she told sheriff’s deputies.
Police officers became aware of the attempted rape after they’d arrested the woman for drug use. She admitted to recently using fentanyl, and then shared how she was sexually assaulted the night before.
Both the woman and her fiancee were experiencing homelessness at the time of the attempted rape.
