EVERETT — Eight city bus routes will undergo service changes and a new bus route will be added in March if the City Council approves a current proposal by Everett Transit.
A public presentation on the proposed changes will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21 at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave. There is also a public survey online until Monday, Dec. 5 at www.EverettTransit.org/ServiceChange and staff will be on buses this month with paper surveys.
The most significant revision affects Route 18, which connects Everett Station with the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal.
Edgewater Bridge repair work will force buses to circumvent Mukilteo Boulevard for most of next year. So instead, Route 18 would reach the ferry terminal via parts of Route 70: Glenwood Avenue, Merrill Creek Parkway, and Highway 526 to the Mukilteo Speedway.
Buses would calibrate with ferry schedules, running five times westbound in the morning and five times eastbound in the evening.
Route 18 also would no longer be stopping along Hewitt Avenue in the revised route.
A new Route 19 would run from Everett Station to Everett Community College along Colby Avenue, providing direct access to Everett High School and Providence Regional Medical Center.
These buses would leave as often as every 30 minutes Monday through Friday between 6:15 a.m. - 8:45 p.m., and every hour on Saturdays (8 a.m.-8:30 p.m.) and Sundays (9 a.m.-7:30 p.m.).
Other proposed changes:
• Route 8 (Everett Station to Paine Field) makes Paine Field Airport the route termination point, and would introduce additional service to 112th Street SE and restore transit access to 4th and 5th Avenues from Casino Road to Evergreen Way. It would cut most of 100th Street SE from its route and no longer stop at the intersection of Airport Road and Evergreen Way, instead stopping along Evergreen Way to 112th Street SW.
• Routes 4 and 12 would get earlier morning service.
• Route 6 (Everett Station to the waterfront) would begin offering later evening service.
• Route 7 (Everett Mall to Everett Community College) would begin offering earlier 15-minute service at 7 a.m. Monday-Friday.
• Route 2 (between Everett Mall and Mariner Park & Ride) would expand to allow access to more destinations along 112th Avenue, establishing “a broader east to west connection line that will allow customers to access new businesses, more transfer points and more direct access to schools for students,” according to an Everett Transit brochure.
• Route 3 (Everett Station to Seaway Transfer Center) would gain longer hours and restore transit access along Beverly Lane and 79th, as well as Hardeson Road, and introduce new service along Sievers Duecy Boulevard.
Everett Transit says the proposal would improve accessibility, reliability, sustainability, and safety.
The route and service changes would take effect in March if City Council approves.
