Burn ban initiated due to smoke

SNOHOMISH COUNTY — The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency issued a burn ban in the county Sunday, Nov. 13 because stagnant air is allowing pollution from wood-burning stoves to linger.
The agency said it thinks the air could clear by midweek.

During a burn ban, people are not supposed to burn wood in stoves, instead relying on their electric heat, and no outdoor fires are allowed. Being caught violating the ban is a $1,000 fine.
The agency says burn bans are to reduce the amount of pollution creating unhealthy air. “Wood smoke affects the respiratory and cardiovascular systems and increase health risks, especially for sensitive populations.”
