Monroe Schools to select new superintendentin coming months, public meeting Nov. 16

MONROE — A new permanent superintendent will take the reins at Monroe Schools come fall 2023.
Current superintendent Marci Larsen was selected this summer to lead Monroe on a one-year contract. Larsen came out of retirement from a successful career as Mukilteo’s supe to take the role in Monroe.
The district is taking applications through Jan. 3. A timeline has the school board interviewing the finalists and selecting the appointee in January or February.
A community forum about the superintendent selection is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. at the District Administration Office at 14692 179th Ave. SE.
Who’s applied for the job will be presented publicly at the Jan. 9 school board meeting. The district is working with consulting firm Hazard Young Attea and Associates.
Larsen was hired to formally take over after the dismissal of internally hired Superintendent Justin Blasko. Interim superintendent Kim Whitworth steered the ship when Blasko was put on temporary forced leave before his settlement payout was arranged.
