The accident was a four-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 5 in north Seattle that began when a driver came off the 145th Street overpass and crashed onto a car driving on the highway below. It caused a chain reaction with more cars including the one Mitchell was in.
The Washington State Patrol reported that Mitchell was not wearing her seatbelt and was partially ejected from her vehicle, according to multiple media reports. She was initially hospitalized.
Mitchell was a well-loved bartender at The Getaway Tavern of Mountlake Terrace. The bar’s community was devastated.
The driver was arrested on many charges including DUI.
