SNOHOMISH — Both of Snohomish’s big high schools will be getting new principals.
For Glacier Peak, the school district held final interviews for its next principal last week.
Snohomish High’s principal Eric Cahan, meanwhile, will be switching to being principal at Valley View Middle School this fall.
Cahan approached the district on making his switch, Superintendent Kent Kultgen said. District officials thought it made sense. The swap “was a good fit” for Valley View, Kultgen told the school board last week.
The principal Cahan is replacing at Valley View, Brian Burdon, will be the district’s new director of Career and Technical Education.
At Glacier Peak, principal Jeff Larson is returning to being a teacher in the district. He said he asked for the change to be able to work more closely with students.
Larson arrived as Glacier Peak’s principal in 2017 after leading an Arlington middle school. He took over for Jim Dean, who was Glacier Peak’s first-ever principal when it opened in 2008.
“It has been my greatest honor and privilege professionally to serve as Principal of Glacier Peak High School the past five years,” Larson wrote in a February announcement to families.
The district is using an executive search company to recruit principals for both high schools.
