SNOHOMISH — A diverse range of approaches to gardening marks this year’s Snohomish Garden Tour, which is happening noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 26.
“I really wanted variety,” said Crystal Meadows, the Snohomish Garden Club member who chose the eight gardens on the tour. “What people do with landscape and art is really interesting. At least one of the gardens is going to stand out with someone.”
This year’s participants include an 1887 Snohomish farm house, a home with an historic Scottish elm tree, and a yard with a secret garden featuring colored bowling balls and a bottle tree collection.
Visitors walk a 1.3-mile loop to view the gardens, six of which are between Third and Sixth Streets on Avenues A and B.
“What we tried to do is keep it simple this year. We wanted a simpler route,” Meadows said. In past years people have had to drive to some of the locations.
Docents, as well as many of the host homeowners, will be on hand to point out features and answer questions.
Tickets can be purchased for $20 online at www.snohomishgardenclub.com or in person at McDaniel’s Do-It Center, McAuliffe’s Valley Nursery and Sunnyside Nursery.
Children under 12 are free. Proceeds benefit the food bank garden, the Snohomish Garden Club’s scholarship and grant programs, and the hanging baskets along First Avenue.
Organizers aren’t sure how many people to expect, but Meadows estimates it might be more than 400 if there’s good weather.
“With the Covid situation people have been stir crazy. They have cabin fever,” she said. “It’s a really excellent way to get outside with friends and family.”
Public parking for the tour is available around Central Elementary School and Snohomish High School. Public restrooms will be not be available. Guests are asked not to smoke or vape on the tour.
